5 tips for selecting the perfect sofa

Do your homework

It’s easy to measure your new sofa’s floor space. However, details like height, armrest thickness and required features can be harder to pin down. Evaluating your old model will add context and shed light on those fuzzy details – a final goodbye you could say. For example, the overall length of your sofa is fine, but its wide armrests steal too much seating space. Then go for a longer design or opt for narrower armrests. Your sofa’s position is great for watching TV but closes off contact with the rest of your living area. Then try an open-end for more ways to sit and interact.

Be thorough

Trying out your prospective sofa can seem awkward. The well-mannered person in you wants to resist rummaging around our beautifully displayed sofas. Don’t worry. Ignore that feeling, and be as thorough as you wish. We’re sure of the quality of our designs, and we want you to be just as certain when you buy.

Sit down

Sit in every seat, and do so for at least three minutes. Check for comfort and the absence of hard framework and springs. Our designs feature high-quality, high-density foam, mixed with down for extra comfort. Feel around the form, checking that all profiles are well padded. Try the armrests and check your seating posture. If you are tall, you should consider designs with longer seat depths: the length from the back cushion to front of the seat.

Fabric or leather

With modern fabric treatments and high-performance blends, the practicality-gap between fabric and leather has narrowed. That said, if you have pets and very young children, leather is the better choice, as it is still more durable and easier to clean on an everyday basis. If vibrant colour is high on your list, then fabric will be your best option. The matt of most fabrics adds a contemporary feel to your space, while leather brings with it an extra touch of luxury. Of course, there’s the option of on-trend velvets for a chic expression. The good news is we have over a hundred large 1.4m2 fabric and leather swatches waiting for you in your local store.
